Some do it yourself insulation tips for a cold 2015

Posted by on

2015 is off to a cold start.   Here are some weather highlights from NBC news:

- Subzero chill even in Alabama and Georgia

- As much as 1.5 feet of snow in cities around the Great Lakes

- Temperatures have dropped to -25 degrees in Madison, WI

With conditions like these, even if you're in a usually warm area, you might be thinking about some home improvement projects to keep the heat in.

Here is a brief guide on some of our easy do-it-yourself insulation products.

1.  NRG Door Sweeps  ($10.75)

This economical 4 pack of door sweeps reduces drafts from under your doors and is easy to install between your door and threshold, requiring no tools, just our two-sided tape that adheres to your door.

2. NRG Outlet and light switch kits ($3.99)

If you've ever put your hand on an outlet on an outside wall, you may have noticed that outlets can actually create quite a strong draft.  To install light switch and outlet insulators, just unscrew the plate and insert the insulators between the plate and the wall.

3.  NRG Door Strikes ($4.00)

By holding doors tight against the weather strip, door strikes reduce drafts from doors and save energy.  To install, just remove the old strike plate and screws.   Place the door strike in the cutout and replace the screws.

For less than $20 and in just a few minutes, using just a screw driver, these energy savers can help you winterize your home and make it through this cold winter.
